Frequently Asked Questions
You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers
Getting Started
Yes — catch-up bookkeeping is one of the most common things we help with. We'll review your historical transactions, categorize everything correctly, and get your books current so you have an accurate picture of where your business stands. From there, we keep things current on an ongoing basis.
Once you sign up, we'll schedule a brief kickoff call to understand your business, connect your accounts, and review any existing records. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. You'll have a dedicated team handling your books from day one.
We handle the migration for you. We'll export your existing data from QuickBooks, review it for accuracy, and bring it into our system. You don't need to do anything beyond giving us access — we take care of the transition.
Typically: access to your business bank accounts and credit cards, any existing bookkeeping files, and prior-year tax returns if available. We'll send you a clear checklist after your kickoff call so nothing slips through the cracks.
It depends on your revenue, the complexity of your transactions, and whether you need tax strategy alongside bookkeeping. Book a call and we'll walk you through the options — there's no pressure, just a straightforward conversation about what makes sense for your situation.
Who we serve
Absolutely. We work with businesses at every stage — from newly launched to several years in. Getting your books set up correctly from the start saves a significant amount of time and money down the road.
We specialize in service-based businesses: consultants, freelancers, creators, independent practitioners, and small service businesses. We don't currently support businesses with complex inventory, manufacturing, or international operations requiring multi-jurisdiction tax filings.
Our core services are bookkeeping, financial reporting, and tax strategy. We don't currently handle invoicing, bill payment, payroll, or inventory management directly — but we integrate with tools that do and ensure everything flows into your books correctly.
Bookkeeping
It depends on how far behind you are and the volume of transactions. A few months typically takes one to two weeks. A year or more of catch-up can take three to six weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeline during onboarding based on your specific situation.
No — we handle everything in our own system. You won't need to maintain a separate QuickBooks account once you're fully onboarded with us.
We export your existing data, review it for accuracy, and bring it into our system. If there are errors or inconsistencies in your prior records, we'll flag them and discuss the best way to handle them before importing.
For most transactions, no. Bank and credit card statements are sufficient for bookkeeping purposes. For certain deductible expenses — particularly cash transactions — it's a good practice to keep digital records, but we'll advise you on exactly what you need to hold onto.
Accurate books give you a real picture of your cash position, profitability, and financial trends. This makes it possible to plan ahead, make informed decisions, and avoid surprises at tax time. Without current books, you're essentially flying blind.
We close each month's books within the first two weeks of the following month. You'll receive a summary with your updated reports once it's done.
We use a combination of purpose-built bookkeeping tools tailored to service businesses. You don't need to manage any software yourself — we handle everything and share reports directly with you.
Taxes
Anything related to your business taxes: estimated payments, deductions, entity structure, year-end planning, and more. We're here to help you understand your tax situation and make smart decisions — not just to file a return once a year.
Yes. We track contractor payments throughout the year and prepare 1099-NEC filings for any contractors who meet the threshold. We handle both the preparation and the filing.
Yes. Tax filing is included in our full-service plans. We prepare your return, walk you through it before submission, and file it on your behalf.
Yes. State tax filings are included as part of our tax services. If you operate in multiple states, let us know during onboarding so we can account for that in your plan.
Tax-only engagements are available in limited cases. That said, accurate bookkeeping is the foundation of a clean tax return — so if your books aren't current, we'll likely recommend getting those in order first.
We focus on business taxes. If you're a sole proprietor or single-member LLC, your business income flows through your personal return, which we handle. For separate personal returns with complex individual situations, we can discuss what makes sense.
Your account
We offer monthly plans with no long-term contract required. We'd prefer to earn your continued business by doing great work — not by locking you in.
Your financial data is yours. If you ever leave, we'll export everything in a standard format and walk you through how to access it. We don't hold data hostage.
We use bank-level encryption for all data in transit and at rest. Access is strictly controlled, and we follow security best practices throughout our platform and internal processes.
Our team
Most software tools give you a place to store data — they don't give you a financial system. Visor combines bookkeeping, reporting, and proactive tax strategy into one service handled by people who understand service businesses. You're not managing software; you're getting expert support.
Our expert tax team includes experienced bookkeepers, accountants, and tax strategists — all focused on service businesses. Every client has a dedicated team that knows their business.
Yes. Our tax work is overseen by licensed CPAs with experience in small business and self-employment tax.
Visor was built after seeing how many service business owners were stuck managing disconnected tools, dealing with reactive accountants, and getting surprised by their tax bill. We set out to build a service that keeps everything organized, current, and proactive.
